As the owner of a road construction business, B.W. Young worked alongside his crews and understood firsthand the demands contractors faced every day. Existing equipment didn’t always meet those demands, so rather than accept the limitations, he began designing equipment that solved the problems he encountered on the jobsite.
That practical mindset eventually led to several patented inventions, including the Young Truck Hook, the Young Roto-Pactor, the Young Slurry Seal process and, most notably, the Young Air-Flo Regenerative Air Sweeper.
Underlying each invention was a simple philosophy: Build It the Right Way, or Do Not Build It at All.
Today, that principle remains at the center of TYMCO’s engineering process. Rather than adding complexity for the sake of innovation, the company’s design philosophy continues to emphasize simplicity, functionality, practicality and dependability — qualities that reflect the needs of the people who operate, maintain and manage the equipment every day.
“Engineering is essential in the development of a good product,” says Kenneth Young, President of TYMCO. “But for TYMCO, a great product also has to reflect a clear understanding of what a user actually needs.”

Engineering durable equipment also requires maintaining control over how it’s built.
TYMCO continues to engineer and manufacture its sweepers in Waco, Texas, allowing the company to oversee both product design and production while maintaining consistent quality standards throughout the manufacturing process.
That doesn’t mean every component is manufactured in-house. Instead, the company evaluates each part based on one question: What is the right way to build the best sweeper for the customer?
In some cases, that means manufacturing components at the TYMCO manufacturing facility in Waco, Texas. In others, it means partnering with trusted suppliers whose products meet TYMCO’s performance expectations.
“We have never believed that the least expensive way is always the best approach,” says Gary Young, Executive Vice President, Engineering at TYMCO.
That same philosophy extends into product development. Feedback from contractors, municipalities, airports, industrial customers, operators, service technicians and dealers all contributes to the engineering process, helping identify opportunities to improve durability, serviceability and overall machine performance before new designs reach the market.
Rather than relying solely on research and development testing, TYMCO continues the practice established by its founder by validating new products and features in real-world applications.
Supporting the Machine Throughout Its Life
Long-term durability also depends on what happens after a machine leaves the factory. Even well-engineered equipment requires maintenance, parts availability and knowledgeable service to maximize uptime.
TYMCO supports customers through a dealer network of more than 50 locations across the United States and Canada, providing factory-trained technicians, technical support and replacement parts when they’re needed.
It also operates a dedicated 3,500-square-foot Training Center in Waco, where mechanics, operators and equipment managers participate in hands-on Service Schools designed to teach effective maintenance practices and refine troubleshooting skills.
Together, these resources help customers reduce downtime while extending the productive life of their equipment.
Equipment design has evolved significantly since B.W. Young developed the first Regenerative Air Sweeper to improve efficiency on his own road construction projects. Customer expectations have changed as well, with greater emphasis on lifecycle costs, operational efficiency and dependable long-term performance.
Yet the philosophy behind TYMCO’s engineering process has remained remarkably consistent. TYMCO continues to design and support its sweepers with the expectation that they should last, perform reliably and deliver value throughout their service life.
